Yorktown volleyball beats defending state champ Carmel

VOLLEYBALL

Class 3A No. 2 Yorktown took down defending state champion and 4A No. 8-ranked Carmel in three sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-19). Kenzie Knuckles put up 13 kills, nine digs and 21/2 blocks in the Tigers’ victory, while Mimi Arrington had added six kills and two aces.

Central defeated Madison-Grant in three sets Tuesday (25-20, 25-19, 29-27). Virginia Wilhoite had 18 kills, and Lacee Adams put up 46 assists for the Bearcats.

Blackford faced a road loss against Bluffton Tuesday (25-23, 25-18, 25-14). Gracie Minner had 12 assists and three aces for the Bruins.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Monroe Central participated in the Pendleton Heights Arabian Roundup and placed eighth. Conner Miller earned the fastest time for the Golden Bears, placing 16th with a time of 17 minutes, 41.60 seconds.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Monroe Central ran in the Pendleton Heights Arabian Roundup. Aubrey Norris placed 15th overall for the Golden Bears with a time of 20:42.70.

BOYS SOCCER

Burris fell 4-1 to Mount Vernon, with Max Alvarado scoring the lone Owl goal.

BOYS TENNIS

Delta earned the victory over Central 4-1. The Eagles’ Jason Wegener swept his No. 3 singles opponent 6-0, 6-0. Khamasi Muhiga got the lone win for the Bearcats at No. 1 singles 7-5, 7-5.

Blackford lost 5-0 to Adams Central Tuesday. Zach Tarr and Kerigan Reynard had the longest match of the evening, taking two games from their opponents at No. 1 doubles.

GIRLS GOLF

Wes-Del pulled out a close win against Madison Grant, 219-223. Jentry Johnson and Robin Whitesel led the Warriors, each shooting a 52.

Yorktown edged out a victory against Pendleton Heights, 165-167. Reece Malapit was the overall medalist of the event, shooting one under par.

GIRLS SOCCER

Yorktown shut out Central 11-0 at home. Katie Nixon and Lizzie Smith each put up three goals for the Tigers.

Delta defeated Burris 6-2. Bailee Allen scored four goals for the Eagles, while Hanna King and Anna Rather each scored a goal for the Owls.
